Introduction

I.               About the Department

(A)  Department History

    The Department of Computer Science of the College of Science (incl. Master’s Degree Program) was founded on August 1, 2007, and emphasizes computer theory and practical expertise. With the skills taught at our department, our students will be equipped with the knowledge they need to work with software, hardware, network applications, and to become proficient in the development and research of information science. Incorporating the university’s exemplary educational resources and information technology, we are able to produce graduates who are very capable with the design and research of IT education and digital content. On the day of its founding, Former President Liu Yuan-Tsun, Dean Huang Wan-Chu, and Director Lai Ah-Fur were present to officially unveil the department and hold the inaugural reception where many distinguished guests were in attendance. Former President Liu hoped that the staff and enrollment of the Department of Computer Science could work to establish connections with technology parks, such as the Nankang Software Park and the Neihu Technology Park, and thus improve the skills of graduates.

(B)  Our Aims

1.     We emphasize computer theory and practical expertise. We equip students with knowledge they need to work with software, hardware, network applications, and become proficient in the development and research of information science.

2.     We use the university’s exemplary educational resources and information technology to produce graduates who are competent with the design and research of IT education and digital technology.

(C)  Educational Vision and Goals

The department currently staffs 11 full-time faculty members (2 professors, 6 associate professors, and 3 assistant professors), who are all academic professionals who are enthusiastic about teaching.
